  6. 1.  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS

  8.     The MAD16 software package contains (2) 3.5" 1.44M diskette.
  9.     - This is the DOS plus Windows installation diskette
  10.  
  11.     The Installation diskette has the following subdirectories and

  40.          sound card. In order to ship an application, you must

  45. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  46.  
  47.     The hard disk installation program, INSTALL.EXE, will copy 
  48.     the necessary files from OPTi Installation disk into your hard 
  49.     disk. Follow the following procedure to install the software:
  50.  
  51.     !!! Note: For Windows users, please exit from Windows and run
  52.               the installation from DOS.
  53.  
  54.     (Assuming you are using floppy drive A, and you wish to install
  55.      to hard disk drive C)
  56.  
  57.     1. Place the disk labeled "OPTi MAD16 Installation" in 
  58.        Drive A.
  59.  
  60.     2. Type a: and press ENTER to change to Drive A.
  61.  
  62.     3. Type install and press ENTER to begin the installation.
  63.  
  64.     INSTALL.EXE will do the followings for you: 
  65.     
  66.     a.) Create the directory \MAD16 in your hard disk drive. 
  67.  
  68.     b.) Prompt you for CD-ROM and sound card options so that after
  69.         you have finished the installation and have rebooted your 
  70.         machine, you will be ready to use the sound card.
  71.  
  72.     c.) Copy the files in your floppy disk to the MAD16 directory and 
  73.         Windows directory respectively.
  74.  
  75.     d.) Update your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and SYSTEM.INI files
  76.         In CONFIG.SYS, the following will be added:
  77.  
  78.         - DEVICE=C:\MAD16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:S /P:340 
  79.           (assuming SONY CD-ROM)
  80.           DEVICE=C:\MAD16\SLCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /B:340

  82.         In AUTOEXEC.BAT:

  101.           MAD16C.DRV is the Base driver comprising WAVE, MIDI,
  102.           MIXER and AUXILIARY audio services.

  104.           M16MIDI.DRV is the external MIDI device driver. This requires
  105.       that you have an external keyboard synthesizer attached via
  106.       the MIDI Input/Output port on the Sound Card.

  108.           VMAD16.386 is the Virtual Device driver for Windows 
  109.           Enhanced Mode.

  112. 3.  GETTING HELP ABOUT SNDINIT.EXE
  113.  
  114.     You can issue the following command to get information 
  115.     about sndinit.exe:
  116.  
  117.     - SNDINIT /?
  118.  
  119.  
  120. 4.  VOLUME CONTROL TSR PROGRAM
  121.  
  122.     The volume control memory resident program, VOLTSR.EXE, allows
  123.     you to change volume using hot keys while you are in a DOS 
  124.     application. The hot keys are:
  125.  
  126.         Ctrl-Alt-U      Raises the volume
  127.         Ctrl-Alt-D      Lowers the volume
  128.         Ctrl-Alt-M      Mute
  129.  
  130.     For example, pressing the CTRL, ALT, and U keys will raise 
  131.     the volume.
  132.  
  133.     You need to load the TSR before you can use it. To load the TSR,
  134.     type VOLTSR at the DOS prompt.

  137. 5.  KARAOKE PROGRAM
  138.  
  139.     The Karaoke.exe program allows user to control the input volume
  140.     of the microphone on the fly with "HOT KEYS." Before using 
  141.     Karaoke, the VOLTSR.EXE program must be successfully loaded
  142.     and running.
  143.  
  144.     To enable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE ON" at the DOS prompt.
  145.  
  146.     To increase MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageUp
  147.     To decrease MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageDown
  148.  
  149.     To disable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE OFF" at the DOS prompt.

  152. 6.  CD-ROM Interface Setup Device Driver
  153.  
  154.     The CD-ROM Setup Device Driver is called CDSETUP.SYS. This 
  155.     driver sets up the interface of your CD-ROM to the MAD16 sound
  156.     card. Each time you change or add a CD-ROM to your sound card. 
  157.     The line "DEVICE=CDSETUP.SYS..." will be added to the first line 
  158.     of your CONFIG.SYS file before the CD-ROM device driver line. 
  159.     CDSETUP.SYS is defined as follows:
  160.     
  161.     DEVICE=[drive:]\[directory]\CDSETUP.SYS /T:[M/S/P/X] /P:[address] 
  162.            /I:[IRQ] /D:[DMA]    
  163.  
  164.     [drive] = drive where you have the driver installed
  165.     [directory] = directory where the driver is located
  166.     [M/S/P/X] = M stands for Mitsumi
  167.                 S stands for SONY
  168.                 P stands for PANASONIC
  169.                 X stands for disabled
  170.  
  171.     [address] = Port address for CD-ROM (320, 330, 340, 360)
  172.  
  173.     [IRQ] = Interrupt number (5,7,9,10,11)
  174.  
  175.     [DMA] = DMA channel (0, 1, 3)

  177.     For example, the following line sets up the interface for a 
  178.     Mitsumi CD-ROM:

  180.     DEVICE=C:\MAD16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:M /P:340 /I:10
  181.  
  182.     If you did not specify the /I or /D options, CDSETUP will 
  183.     automatically choose the default setting for the CD-ROM type 
  184.     your have specified.

  186.     - For Mitsumi, the IRQ is 10 and DMA is disabled.
  187.     - For SONY, they are both disabled.
  188.     - FOR PANASONIC, they are both disabled.

  191. 7) Run DOS games in Windows
  192.  
  193.     Current implementation is designed for those DOS games which 
  194.     have icons in Windows and run in full screen DOS and close after 
  195.     finished. When multiple DOS boxes are open, only the first 
  196.     DOS box owns the audio device. DOS Box support could be very 
  197.     complicated, we have to concentrate our implementation only on 
  198.     those features most useful to the general users. We recommend 
  199.     to run game or play audio in DOS box only one at a time. 
  200.     Close the DOS box which owns the device will return the device 
  201.     to Windows. Then you can play audio in Windows or run another 
  202.     DOS game.

  204.     !! Note !!
  205.     a) Sometimes, the Setup of the PIF file of a DOS game is crucial. 
  206.        To make a game work effectively under Windows, you probably 
  207.        have to try a few alternative options through PIF editor.
  208.     b) Not all the DOS games can run in Windows' DOS BOX. Some of 
  209.        them just don't run because of system restrictions.
